Anthony's Pro-Life Heritage Revealed by
Susan B. Anthony List and Pro-Life Congresswomen

WASHINGTON, DC -- Just one day before the "Portrait Monument" statue of Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Lucretia Mott is rededicated in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, Susan B. Anthony List members were joined by four pro-life congresswomen praising the early suffragists and their pro-life beliefs.

With the U.S. Capitol in the background Susan B. Anthony List President Jane Abraham led a news conference with Helen Chenoweth (ID-1), Sue Myrick (NC-9), Anne Northup (KY-3), and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-18). Abarham said Anthony's beliefs are never told by extreme feminists who use Anthony's work as the cornerstone for abortion.

Abraham stated, "I am convinced Anthony would be pleased with her statue being restored to a place of prominence in the U.S. Capitol. With the ascent of her statue, her pro-life beliefs are finally being recognized... There is no denying that Susan B. Anthony was pro-life, she called abortion 'child murder.' Some say that if Anthony were around today she would condone abortions, but that's just a hollow comment made by extremists. Look at what she fought against -- slavery, legal prostitution, women not having the same opportunities as men, and especially abortion, where the most innocent is violently persecuted based on inconvenience."

Congresswoman Helen Chenoweth (ID-1) stated, "It is an honor to be here today to set the record straight about Susan B. Anthony's pro-life heritage. A heritage that has been shamefully hijacked by the extreme feminists who refuse to face reality."

Congresswoman Sue Myrick (NC-9) stated, "Susan B. Anthony has paved the way for all women to be involved in today's political process. I am thankful for her dedication to women and their children."

Congresswoman Anne Northup (KY-3) stated, "Susan B. Anthony has been a great figure throughout history. She fought against all injustices from slavery to abortion. It is great that she is finally being restored to a place of prominence in the U.S. Capitol."

Susan B. Anthony List, Inc. is a 501 C (4) not-for-profit membership corporation organized to promote Susan B. Anthony's philosophy of abortion prevention by recruiting pro-life women to run for federal office through the Political Action Committee, training these women and their staffs through campaign schools, and financially supporting their campaigns through the PAC. The organization was named after Susan B. Anthony because she was outspoken against abortion, calling it "child murder." Since the founding of the Susan B. Anthony List's political committee in 1993, the SBA list has helped eight new women get elected to U.S. Congress.
